Signals of Opportunity

We were finishing a meeting in the conference room today discussing signals of opportunity. Typically this term is used in the military space referring to leveraging signals that are already permeating the environment for mission success.

However these signals happen in a civilian environment all the time. Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth , digital broadcast, etc. are all signals that make up “The Signal Soup.” It’s relevant to ZuluTime because ZT is one of the very few location technologies that can use these signals of opportunity to create, distill and present positioning in usable form. It certainly helps to have signals that are devoted to providing a position but they are not always needed. These RF transmissions that have nothing to do with location but everything to do with voice and data transmission holds vast potential for weaving positioning into the foundational networks of this Signal Soup.
